Thomas John Ott Beamish, aged ca.34.

B. ca.1781, 3rd son of Thomas Beamish, mariner, merchant, and port warden of Halifax, and of Amelia (Mason) Beamish, whose step-father was Frederick Ott, of Halifax--his last name was passed on to Thomas and to his many brothers and sisters as one of their given names. Although 15 years older than Louisa, Thomas is her romantic interest--a fact which tends to be obscured by Louisa's formal way of referring to him as "Mr. Beamish" or "my friend." Thomas Ott Beamish is a victualler. He lives in Halifax, evidently with his mother and sisters, where, as it appears his father died a number of years ago, he would have become the head of the family. (M. 21 Sept. 1816 at Dartmouth to Louisa Sarah Collins, b. ca.1796, dau. of Stephen and Phebe (Coffin) Collins, of Colin Grove. D. 18 Aug. 1860.)
