Mrs. Hughes is Rebecca (Potter) Hughes, wife of Edward Hughes, carpenter.

They live on the north side of the Old Preston Road, just beyond Mount Edward. They were m. ca. 16 march 1799 (the date of their marriage bond). As the bond mentions that the wedding was to take place at Newport, it is possible that this Rebecca Potter is the same Rebecca Potter mentioned in Duncanson (1985, p. 343) as b. ca. 1773, the eighth child of Cornelius and Deborah (Carr) Potter.

(When Edward Hughes d. at "Preston" on 29 May 1820, aged 56, Rebecca Hughes was left with nine children. At the end of that year, on 10 Dec., her oldest daughter Maria Susanna was m. to William Reeves, who, according to an item in the Genealogical Newsletter of the Royal Nova Scotia Historical Society--No. 36, p. 98, Q. 1812--is the William H. Reeves who later m. Louisa's sister Mary Ann--see under A26n1 . According to the item, after Mary Ann d., he m. again, at Chester, on 31 March 1842.
