Mrs. Allen:

It would appear that in this case "Mrs. Allen" could be either Mrs. John Allen or Mrs. William Allen--the one being Mrs. Brinley's mother and the other apparently running Mount Edward for Mrs. Brinley (see O13n1 ). But as in many instances in the diary "Mrs. Allen" is clearly Mrs. John Allen and in no instance clearly anyone else, it is likely Mrs. John Allen that is referred to here as well.

Louisa tends to signify the other Mrs. Allens by adding their husband's name or initial or a descriptive phrase, e.g., "Mrs. E. Allen's" (see S11, N14), "Mrs. W. Allen's" (see O31), "Mrs. Allen's at Mount Edward" (see O13).
