The word appears to be written "baabers" (or possibly "boobers") in MS.

In A26 it is written "baberys." That in both cases the same word is intended seems likely--not only because of the similarity between the misspellings but also because on each of these two occasions Louisa also mentions visiting her "bower," on the way to which, as she says in the present entry, is the spot where she picks "baabers." On no further occasion does she mention her bower in connection with picking berries; nor indeed does she mention picking bayberries again.

As mentioned in A26n2, "bearberries" or "barberries" might have been meant instead of "bayberries."
